As you know, Zerra & Co. is always (and we mean always) aiming to love your skin and love the planet. Being a company that primarily sells online - although you can certainly find us at these fabulous locations - one thing we have had to deeply consider is our carbon emissions and how they affect the planet.

With that in mind, we decided Zerra & Co. would ship completely carbon neutral. And we are happy to report that we’ve stuck to it! Everything you order from us will be sent to you and any carbon emissions as a result of that shipping will be totally offset at no extra charge to you.

Pretty awesome, right?

We think so, but if you’re unfamiliar with carbon neutral shipping and wondering what it is and why we do it, we’ve got the lowdown for you. 

What Actually is Carbon Neutral Shipping?

You’ve probably heard about carbon footprints before - our carbon footprint is basically the amount of greenhouse gases (such as carbon dioxide and methane) we are responsible for putting into the atmosphere. The goal is to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible in order to have as little of an effect on the planet’s health as possible.

Carbon neutral shipping is a big step in that direction!

When we say we ship carbon neutral, that means we pay to offset any carbon we produce as a result of shipping so that there are no extra CO2 emissions being added to the environmental load. Basically, we pay our CO2 debts instead of letting it accumulate along with all the other carbon emissions resulting from worldwide shipping.

Why is Shipping Carbon Neutral Important?

Is carbon neutral shipping the end-all be-all solution to environmental strain? Unfortunately not. Even companies who offset their CO2 emissions are still, well, emitting. In a better future, hopefully we can all work together to reduce CO2 emissions rather than just offsetting them. 

But until then, offsetting is an important step in the right direction, and it’s certainly better than doing nothing at all.

More companies choosing to ship carbon neutral will lead to more accountability, awareness, and carbon cleanup, if you will. And we are proud to be a cosmetic company leading the way in that direction!

Plus, people care, and customers like you are guiding companies down the road towards sustainable practices because without you, the companies would cease to exist. Because you and other customers who care are voting with your dollars and choosing companies who do ship carbon neutral, other companies will have to step up to meet the demand for more sustainable practices.

So while shipping carbon neutral won’t solve all our environmental problems overnight, it’s a necessary step towards a future of sustainable shopping.

Our Shipping Practices

We want to do our very best to protect the planet from all angles, not just the bare minimum. At Zerra & Co. we ship carbon neutral in all directions. That means all orders - including outgoing, returns, and any containers sent back to us through our container return program - are completely offset. 

On top of that, we also took into account all our other shipping practices to make them as eco friendly as possible. We’ll allow ourselves a humble brag here when we say we ship completely plastic free.

Our mailers are completely paper based and made from recycled materials, making them 100% compostable and recyclable, including the tape!

Our Offsets so Far

The cool thing about keeping track of our impact and offsets is that we get to see first hand how our practices are making a difference and share them with you! Because without you all, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Together with our customers, we’ve been able to offset 2083.1 kg of CO₂ over the past year (as of December 1, 2021).

That’s equal to:

• 306,425.1 smartphones charged
• 0.187 flights around the earth
• 5957.1 mi driven (in an average passenger vehicle)
• 271.7 gallons of gasoline consumed

Plus, our carbon offset contributions have supported approximately 22,732.0 m² of forest protection and approximately 3,003 tree seedlings protected.
